Significance of Neem Oil in Gardening and Farming

Neem oil is a natural and eco-friendly insecticide that works as both pesticide and fungicide occurring in plants. It also promotes healthy plant growth.

Unlike synthetic pesticides, Neem oil does not create death zones around the applied spots. Only leaf-sucking and chewing insects are targeted while no beneficial insects are harmed.

Also unlike with other types of pesticides insects do not become immune to Neem oil. Hence Neem oil can be applied repeatedly without losing its effectiveness.

Neem oil is biodegradable and non-toxic which means ground water and nearby water bodies will not be polluted due to runoffs.

Thus Neem oil can be used on your plants with total peace of mind.

How to use ?

Preparation :

Mix 1 oz of Neem Delite Oil per 1 Gallon of water or 1-1/2 tsp of Neem Delite Oil per Quart of water.

Add 1/2 tsp of Pro-Tekt or mild liquid soap as an emulsifying agent.

Shake well before spraying.

Application :

Spray the above prepared mixture generously on all the leaf surfaces. Be sure to spray on the under surface of the leaves.

Tips for optimum results :

  • Spray the above mixture on plants once a week or every other week.

  • Spray in the early morning or evening to prevent leaf burning.

  • This mixture can be used to water the plants as well.

  • Water the plants thoroughly before spraying the Neem oil as applying Neem oil to the foliage of a withered or drought-stressed plant can burn the foliage.

Dont's :

Do not spray the mixture on plants in direct sunlight.

Do not use Neem oil in extreme temperatures, either too hot or too cold.

Do not spray on plants without spot testing.

Spot Testing : It is possible that some plants may be sensitive to Neem oil and could be killed, especially if the plant is young and/or the mixture is strong and not diluted enough. Thus it is recommended to spray on a small area of the plant and leaving it for 24 hours before checking if the area has any damage. After this spot test, it is safe to spray the whole plant with Neem oil.

As added precaution avoid spraying Neem Oil on plants that are stressed due to drought or over watering.

Caution:

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Avoid direct contact with eyes.

Storage :
